Xoriant Placement Process

Xoriant Placement Process-Recruitment Drive:
About Xoriant:
Xoriant was one such company for which I was searching whole over the Internet but was not able to find any relevant information regarding its placement process. This prompted me to give you all the brief description of the Xoriant placement process. First things first, Xoriant is a Software product development company. It has been in this software development arena for past two decades and is a CMM level-4 organisation as of 2014. For further information about Xoriant I would recommend you to read this article

Placement Process:
General outline of the Xoriant Placement Process:

  • Pre-Placement talk
  • Online Aptitude Test
  • Group Discussion
  • Technical Interview
  • HR and Management Interview

Pre-Placement talk:
Now coming to the placement process, it is slightly different from that of TCS. Firstly you would be subjected to a pre-placement talk. This would last around for 30 to 45 minutes. Basically they would talk about their whole roots and origin, their current position in the industry and most importantly they would discuss about their working lifestyle. After this you would be subjected to an aptitude test. However one more thing to get clarified is that Xoriant is not a bulk recruiter and usually takes two or three candidates and this was the case in my campus. And as of 2014-2015, Xoriant was offering Rs 4.5 lakhs for new recruits in Mumbai region.

Online Aptitude Test:
As usual the aptitude test is conducted online. One thing which I found that in its aptitude test, Xoriant even gives a programming question for a challenge. That is aptitude and programming questions were integrated. Even more interesting fact was that all those who cleared the aptitude were only those who could get through this programming challenge. In 2014-2015 recruitment process there were two Programming questions asked, basically we were given the task to write two programs. Programs were kept at the end of the normal aptitude questions and were evaluated by an online compiler that was integrated within their aptitude software itself. This was the new process that was introduced especially for 2014-2015 batch. Further moving into detail we were specifically given two programs based on Set (Collection Interface) and Map of Java Data Structures. So I recommend you reading the basic methods of these data structures. You could refer to these basic methods from

Group Discussion:
All the candidates who have cleared aptitude cum programming challenge test are now subjected to Group Discussions (GD). Frankly speaking there was a sharp decline in those who got selected for GD. From the total of 87 students who gave aptitude test only 17 finally got selected to the GD. In my campus GD was taken in a two groups of 8 and 9 candidates respectively. Now talking about the purpose of GD, basically the recruitment people were trying to figure out our communication skills and analyzing capability. For instance in my case, we were given a topic “If you were a government and given Rs 1000cr to be used for whole of India what would you invest on, whether on Eradication of Poverty or Space Programme ”. So basically this was a kind of question looking out for our analyzing skills. And finally from this round only around 8 candidates were selected for the Technical Interview Process.

Technical Interview:
In the technical interview there was nothing which I found different. Basically I would recommend all to have a thorough understanding of your project. Basically say if you were building some software on say MVC architecture then you should have a good understanding of the architecture itself. So it is essential for you to have a deeper insight of your project. Further you would be asked some simple programming questions like write a logic for Printing Fibonacci Series in reverse order say from number 13 to 0 onwards (i.e. 13,8,5,3,2,1,1,0 ). These were few questions to which I was subjected.

HR & Management Interview:
From the group of 8 students only 5 got selected for HR Interview process. And again in HR there was nothing different. To prepare for HR questions “Click here”. And finally, only 3 candidates were selected by Xoriant from my campus. This was all about Xoriant Placement Process.

Note: This was entirely based on my experience. And I no way assure that you would be undergoing through the same process. This was the procedure followed for 2014-2015 candidates.

L&T Recruitment process

L&T placement process 2014-2015:

Step-1: Pre-Placement Process
If L&T InfoTech is coming to your campus then you would be definitely notified by your TPO (Training and placement officer). First of all, you would be sent a softcopy of L&T Trainee application form and a self declaration form. Once you receive you need to take a print out of these forms. These need to be filled and submitted on your placement day. Also make sure you attach your photograph in the application form. And it is essential that you fill the form with BLACK ball pen. This is essentially the pre-placement process that every aspirant needs to do. This was what the process that was prevalent for 2014-2015 batch. Further L&T have their recruitment drive around September-October in Mumbai region. This is what the usual trend is.

Step-2: Placement Day
On the placement day it is essential that candidates carry following along with them

  • Trainee application and Self Declaration form
  • Resume/CV
  • College-ID card
  • Passport size photograph (2 is enough)
  • Finally attested photocopies of all the certificates (Class-X, XII, All semester exam mark sheet copy) along with the original certificates.

Note: These are just the basic requirements; other requirements would be specified either by TPO or through email to you.

The recruitment process is usually a day long and ends around 8.00 or 9.00pm. About eligibility criteria it would be notified to you by your TPO. In Mumbai region L&T made eligibility criteria 55% (for 6 semesters if L&T is coming in 7th Semester) in the last moment. However the candidate needs to have an aggregate of 60% at the end of B.E. The recruitment process was open for Information Technology, Computer Science, EXTC, Bio-Technology, Mechanical and MCA students. Further top 15% of candidates from a particular branch are exempted from giving aptitude.

The recruitment process of L&T is quite different from TCS. Recruitment process consists of:

  • Pre-Placement talk
  • Online/Offline aptitude test
  • Group Discussion
  • Paragraph Writing
  • Technical & HR Interview.

The whole of pre-placement talk is concentrated on what are the positions, hierarchy of the organization and all about L&T InfoTech history. This usually lasts for 30 minutes or so. After that L&T conducts Offline or Online aptitude. In my campus it was offline that is it was a paper based aptitude test. For aptitude preparation tips and techniques “Click here”.

Followed by aptitude the select candidates would be subjected to a group discussion (GD). Usually GD conducted by L&T consists of 10 to 12 members and is roughly for duration of 10-15 minutes. Again this is also an elimination round. Roughly 5 to 6 candidates are selected from 10 to 12 candidates subjected to GD. However the GD is entirely performance based and above figures is just an estimate. GD topics are usually abstract in nature. A list of selected candidates would be announced for paragraph writing.

However the paragraph writing is not an elimination round. And then the candidates are subjected to Technical Interview. Here the candidates are expected to be well versed with core computer and programming concepts. For technical interview preparation there are few sites that I recommend you to check out:

These are few links that would be helpful for your Technical interview preparation.

Finally the candidates who have cleared the Technical interview are then subjected to HR interview. For HR interview preparations “Click here”. Further it is essential that candidate is well prepared about L&T history as few HR questions may be based on pre-placement talk. For more information about L&T visit- And by the end of the day that is around 8.00 or 9.00 pm the HR or the person in charge would announce a final list of selected candidates and a copy of list would be provided to your TPO (Training and Placement officer).

HR Interview Questions

HR Interview Questions:

There are few HR interview questions that one needs to prepare:

  • Give brief introduction of yourself?
  • Describe about yourself?
  • What is your family background?
  • Why should we hire you?
  • What are your hobbies?
  • Do you think you are fit for my company?
  • What are your strengths and weaknesses?
  • Are you a good engineer?
  • What are your career goals, personal goals and ambitions?
  • Are you a hard working guy? Hum… So what is difference between smart work and hard work?
  • Would you like to change yourself? And if so why?
  • Are you willing to relocate? (Specifically for a girl)
  • Who is your role model?
  • Rate yourself in the scale 1 to 10?
  • What are the subjects you like the most? And why you like?
  • How many years you feel you would be working with us?
  • Are you ready to work if we call you on weekends?
  • How much salary do you expect?
  • Where you see yourself 5 years from today?

These are few general questions that are in some way or the other definitely asked by the recruiters. This is not just limited to TCS. They are applicable to any recruiter that comes to your campus. However it is essential that you prepare for some company specific questions.

TCS Interview Process

TCS Interview Process:
In my case, TCS carried out its interview process on the Day-2. All those who got selected for aptitude, their list would be forwarded to the TPO of the college by the night of Day-1. So there would not be enough time for Interview preparation.

The TCS interview process is a whole day process and often it takes around 8pm to 10pm or get completed. The interview starts around 9.00 am or as scheduled by your TPO (Training & Placement Officer). There are two types of interview that are conducted namely

  • Technical Interview
  • HR Interview

In some colleges it has been approach by TCS where Technical and HR interview are conducted simultaneously (this situation is rare) where in both HR and Technical would screw you up together. But in my campus, both interviews occurred one after the other.

Technical Interview Overview:

Initially you would be subjected to Technical Interview, wherein basic questions on the subjects you have studied over the years in engineering journey are asked. Basically core concepts are tackled and asked rather than subjective concepts. For instance if you are an IT or Comps Science guy you would be asked questions based on Data Structures and Algorithms, basic java concepts like “ method overriding” or they would just ask you to provide logical structure of a particular program, for which you need to prepare well. Further it may even be a logical puzzle. For Electronics guys it is essential that they prepare for Java and C++ concepts.

Basically TCS or recruiters test what is your way of understanding towards a situation or a concept. Often even in Technical interviews few questions regarding TCS are asked that may actually be a part of HR interview. Again Technical Interview is an elimination round.

HR Interview Overview:

If you have cleared the Technical Interview you would be called for the HR Interview on the same day (that is within an hour or so, it may even take several hours so don’t worry). HR is all related to your communication skills, they would observe your body language, your way of speaking and your attitude. Even more they would check out your willingness and capability to be a part of TCS. Here HR basically scrutinizes your Resume/CV. They would typically ask questions for those parts of your CV for which you might not provide complete details. So be smart enough. There are whole set of questions which I feel you should analyze before appearing for HR Interview. “Click here”.

This is the final stage of your entire recruitment process. All those who have cleared HR interview would usually be asked for their CT reference numbers during HR Interview (this is not always true). This entire process usually gets over by 8.00 pm but it may also extend up to 9.00pm or 10.00 pm. Finally at the end they would announce the names of selected candidates. And soon by midnight or by next day your Offer Letters would be dispatched. This was especially the case of Mumbai region campuses.

TCS Email Writing

About Email Writing:

Again this is the elimination round and would be conducted on the same day as that of aptitude. So be prepared, it checks your basic communication skills and grammar. TCS uses a software also known as Touchstone software that does not provide dictionary nor grammar correction and neither the spell checker for Email Writing. Touchstone is where you need to write in your email. So be sure of the word you are writing. You would be given few phrases and based on that you need to write a letter/email. This would be a simple one but there would be a time limit with marks associated with it. Make sure that you use all the phrases as it is in the Email you are going to write because touchstone has algorithm for checking that. Around 10 minutes are allocated for Email-Writing.

For real time practise of Email writing

Note: However these do not provide guarantee as these are just simulators prepared for practise and most probably they may have no match in front of TCS Touchstone software.

For examples and samples you can refer to

These would be enough and nothing more and nothing less. And most of the times these are the only Email writing topics mentioned in above websites that get repeated. So if you are very much worried then just prepare above. This is all about TCS Email Writing.
